Spell the Month in Books March 2022 Linkup

Spell the Month in Books is a linkup hosted here on Reviews From the Stacks on the second Saturday of each month. The goal, inspired by a hashtag I first encountered on Instagram, is to spell the current month with the first letter of book titles, excluding articles such as ‘the’ and ‘a’ as needed. That’s all there is to it! Some months there are theme challenges, such as “books with an orange cover” or books of a particular genre, but for the most part, any book you want to use is fair game! To participate, simply make a post, comment, or picture of the books you choose. They can be books you physically own or simply titles you have come across. Most of the time I create a virtual bookstack from titles on my Goodreads shelves. If you make a list, please share a link to your post in the comments so that I and other participants can see! There is also a Spell the Month in Books button which you can use in your posts. In lieu of a true theme, this month I am going with books that have been on my TBR list for a long time.

M – Music of the Wild by Gene Stratton-Porter

The same intense love of out-door beauty which makes us all remember Mrs. Gene Stratton-Porter’s stories is shown in this book, a large volume with an ampler range of subject than the title would suggest. To the author’s open mind the “music” of owl and hawk and bat belong to the “Chorus of the Forest” as well as that of chewink or grosbeak, and her delicate ear catches also the fairy sayings of moth and flower. Her judgment is not warped, because she knows which song is sweetest; but she insists that each angel have his due whether he be black or white. So crow and cricket, hop-toad and katy-did, have their meed of praise.

A – Also Known as Harper by Ann Haywood Leal

Harper Lee Morgan is an aspiring poet, which isn’t surprising, seeing as how she’s named after her mama’s favorite writer, Harper Lee. And life is giving her a lot to write about just now. Daddy up and walked out, leaving them broke. Then Harper’s family gets evicted.

With Mama scrambling to find work, Harper has to skip school to care for her little brother, Hemingway. Their lives have been turned upside down, which Harper could just about handle if it wasn’t for the writing contest at school. If only she could get up on that stage and read her poems out loud…

R – (The) Rule of Mirrors (Vault of Dreamers #2) by Caragh M. O’Brien

The entire country was watching when Rosie Sinclair was expelled from Forge, the prestigious arts school that doubles as a reality TV show. But few know how Dean Berg was mining students’ dreams in laboratories deep below the school. C – Chasing Mona Lisa by Tricia Goyer

H – The Hunt for Hemingway’s Ghost (Kitty Hawk Flying Detective Agency #2) by Iain Reading
