January 2021 TBR & Goals

January is a month of new beginnings, goal setting, and optimism. This year, I put so much effort into crafting my year-long goals (discussed in this post) that I almost forgot to share my month-specific goals, too! It’s a good thing I have gotten into a habit of outlining my posts a few weeks in advance so that when things like this slip my mind, there is a reminder there.

January Planned Reading List

A Very Bookish Thanksgiving
  • Finish A Very Bookish Thanksgiving. This got pushed to the background with Christmas, but I really am looking forward to the last two stories!

  • Start and make significant progress on House of Leaves by Mark Z. Danielewski. This is a behemoth which has already had a lot said about it, and it makes me tired just looking at the 700+ pages which one friend described as a labyrinth. Still, I’m determined to read it this year, and what better time to start than now, right at the beginning, before school and everything else kicks into high gear?

Eubeltic Quest (Eubeltic Realm #2)
  • Eubeltic Quest (Eubeltic Realm #2) by Nadine C. Keels. I received this ARC last year, and now the book is published, and I still have not found time to read it. This one really needs to be a high priority.

  • One of my goals for this year is to read more of the books which I have long intended to read, but haven’t gotten to. One of those is Laddie by Gene Stratton-Porter. I expect it will be a nice balance to the madness of House of Leaves

Other January Goals

  • Participate in #NewYearsReads2021 and post every day for the first week of the year. Then, post 3 times per week.
  • Keep watching lots of Hallmark movies until my subscription expires on the 15th
  • Start Spring classes well. Have books, supplies, and a general schedule figured out before the first day of classes.
  • Put away Christmas decorations before classes start.
  • Clean (and possibly improve the functionality of) the typewriter
  • Prepare for 3 important birthdays in February.

Do you set month-by-month goals? If so, what’s on your agenda this month?

Today’s question for #NewYearsReads2021 is “How do you track your reading?” Mostly, I use Goodreads. Last year I tried to keep a spreadsheet, and I’ve tried a dedicated book journal, but remembering to fill those things out after reading a book is a stretch for me. I do have another spreadsheet set up for this year based on a template (shared by Elaine Howlin who in turn got it from another blogger), but I am not sure if I will keep up with it. What about you, Reader?

Until the next chapter,

  1. The one goal I am enjoying and looking forward to accomplishing is ~ I’m writing a handwritten letter to everyone, out of state, who sent us a Christmas card. I’m not in a big hurry, but I plan to be finished by the end of February.

    1. Oh I love this! That is a wonderful goal; I hope it is enjoyable to you, and it will be so worth the time and effort to strengthen connections with friends and family who are not close by.
