My Thoughts

This was the first Christmas-themed book I read this year, all the way back in January! To be honest, it didn’t make a huge impression on me. It’s a quick read, and a nice little story about a boy being nice to his new neighbors at Christmas time. There isn’t a lot of depth to it. Yes, the themes of generosity and the true story behind Christmas are important, but at the same time, there just isn’t a lot that happens. It gives off a nice, warm, Christmas-y theme, so if the atmosphere and easy readability are most important, then Unto Him is a sure hit!

The Verdict

If you’re wanting a short story to read as a family about the true meaning of Christmas, Unto Him is a great choice! The message is positive and there is nothing questionable or objectionable about the content. For what it is, it is good – a lighthearted story set at Christmas. Personally, I’m giving it three stars for a solid but not too deep story.

We heard this week that the HVAC system at my work will be out through January, at least, due to a specialty part that has to be ordered to fix the blower. This means our meeting rooms are rather chilly, and sometimes that leads to rather frosty attitudes as well. I actually like the excuse for festive sweaters and additional layers. Then again, I spend most of my time at the circulation desk, which is almost too toasty for my liking most days, due to some strong space heaters. Despite the HVAC issues, we’ve got our winter decorations up, which I am happy to see. I just love the ambiance they add!

Are you reading anything that contributes a Christmas-y ambiance?

Until the next chapter,

Jana

  1. No Christmas themed reads for me…but I generally don’t do Christmas themed reads, they seem to always end up being romances which aren’t quite my thing. I am glad to hear that this was a good family-friendly book though, so it can be read aloud to those who aren’t quite old enough to read it yet. :]
