Hello, Readers!
A note before we get into the meat of todays post: This post is not 100% bookish. Feel free to gasp, clutch your hands together, and whisper “the horror!” dramatically. Okay, melodrama done? Read on, and I think you’ll like what I have in mind.
Today I want to focus on building community within this corner of the blogosphere. Don’t worry, there won’t be any awkward, first day of school styled ice breakers, but I do hope everyone will get involved! As the end of summer can be a bit disappointing for some people, I have also been looking for a post I could write to encourage positivity rather than negativity, without just brushing off the fact that many people love summer and are sad to see it go (I may not be one of those people, but I respect those who are). While I prefer the cooler months, I want to respond to the malaise I see the end of this summer causing with compassion and encouragement – not with a list of why autumn is better than summer.
What I came up with is a seasonal Monday Mini post that I am dubbing “My Favorite Things.” As the name implies, I am going to list a few things that I have been loving this season, and I want to hear you answer the same question in the comments! It can be anything: good books you’ve read, places you’ve visited, a favorite snack, literally anything that has made this season good (or even just bearable) for you. Even if you think you have had the most boring summer ever, I challenge you to find three positive things to share! Feel free to write your own “My Favorite Things” posts and add a comment with your link so others can check out your blog, too! In a few months I’ll do another “My Favorite Things” post about fall, and so on.
Here Are A Few of My Favorite Things (as of Summer 2019)
Okay no more procrastinating, here are my favorite things from this season:
- My cherry tomato bush – I’ve kept this plant alive and producing since May! I planted it in a pot, which is not something I or anyone in my family has done before, so it has been interesting and fun figuring out how to best take care of it. No pictures because apparently it is camera-shy and I can’t seem to get a good one (lol).
The little cool-mist humidifier that I randomly bought myself – First of all, isn’t it adorable?! Second, I love having this on in the dry stretches; the mist is helpful on top of being fun to watch!
- Wearing a light scarf as a shawl – This ought to be a more popular fashion trend, in my opinion. I don’t like wearing shirts or dresses that have tank top straps, even if they are wide, but I also don’t like burning up in the summer by wearing a sweater. I discovered recently that two of my light scarves function very well as a light shawl, providing a level of modesty that I am more comfortable with while not making me too hot! Plus, it looks vintage and classy without much effort.
Hallmark’s Signed, Sealed, Delivered series – My mom checked out the series from the library on a whim, and now we are hooked! We watched all of the original series, and now we’re working through the movies. This series is sweet, funny, and clean, and it says a lot that I (the girl who doesn’t watch many movies) am really into it and want to see what the characters get into next!
Now it’s your turn! Tell me in the comments what you are loving about this season – let’s get to know each other a little better and spread some positivity while we’re at it!
Until the next chapter,
Jana
Good morning. I thought I would give this a try ~ a few of my favorite things. Mmmm.
~ I found this great sleeveless, lightweight, athletic hoodie by UMBRO. It’s so comfortable and cool. Just right for summer. I wear it a LOT! I need to buy another one. I’m going to wear this out. 🙂
~ I walk almost everywhere, so I need good shoes. I found these great jogging shoes at a store that sells outdoor sports equipment. They’ve been great shoes all summer.
~ We’ve had hummingbirds in our backyard this summer. We did hang up two hummingbird feeders. It’s been great enjoying the hummingbirds this season.
Have a great day!

Thanks for your positive words, Kathy! The hummingbirds especially sound so fun; my mom has a hummingbird feeder, but I don’t think she has seen many this year.
