Hey y’all!
There are some exciting things going on in my life recently, and I want to give y’all an update on some of that and how it will affect this blog. I don’t want this post to be only my announcement though, so after that I am going to answer a few fun questions from a “Get to Know Me” type tag! Feel free to ask anything else you want to know (within reason, of course) in the comments for me to answer!
The Announcement/Life Update
So, exciting news, I got a new job recently!! Even better news: it’s full time and in the library! It is a different library from where I currently work part-time, but it is in the same system. I am very excited to get to spend my entire (work) day in one place rather than bouncing between multiple part-time jobs, even though this means I will no longer be nannying or babysitting on a consistent basis and I will definitely miss “my” boys. From what I have seen so far, the atmosphere of this library is fantastic. I’m not sure anything can possibly top my current library, but the one I will be going to has definitely made a strong first impression and I cannot wait to find my place in it.
I have not started the new position yet, but I will very soon. Although I am excited about this, I also know that the transition may not be entirely without bumps or chaos. A lot of things in my schedule are going to have to change, not only my work hours but also when I sleep, eat, and read. I am not entirely sure what this is going to mean for posting here on RFtS, so I would like to ask you all to be patient if my posts become a bit more sporadic in the coming month or so. I hope and expect to still find time to read, and I hope this means I will also continue posting three times most weeks. However, most of the times that I currently have built into my schedule for reading and blogging are going to disappear, and I don’t yet know where or how that will resurface. I am going to continue to do my best make this blog thrive, but I acknowledge that I will have to find a new way to do this that is different from what currently works. I want to be transparent with my readers, so you may know what is going on and hopefully will allot me some grace and patience while I’m getting settled in my new job and figuring out everything that comes along with that.
Meet the Blogger Tag
This tag was created by Bethany @ Bibliophile’s Binge. No one has tagged me to do it, but this seems like an appropriate time to jump in anyways! I hope you enjoy getting to know a bit more about me, and if you aren’t familiar with Bethany’s blog, check it out too!
Name: Jana
Education: B.A. in English
Location: Oklahoma, USA
Job: (imminently effective) Access Specialist II {it’s like a circulation clerk with additional responsibilities and opportunities}
These are a few of my favorite things: Typewriters, being outside (and away from hordes of people), libraries, learning new knitting stitches, foxes, cloudy days, and music (especially if I or someone that I know is making it)
Is there a story behind my blog’s name?: Not really. I wanted something that reflected what my blog is mostly about (book reviews), and using the term stacks is a nod to the library where I get many of my books. I hoped that people who see my blog would recognize and appreciate that I am not always all about the latest book released, just the latest good one that I have come across.
What are you looking forward to right now?: Starting my full-time job and thus having a consistent schedule and actual insurance, plus all the other fun things that come with it: spending all day in the library, getting to see how a larger location operates, becoming a part of an organization actively seeking to improve the lives of everyone in the community.
Favorite Ice Cream: I rarely eat ice cream, but when I do it’s usually either mint chocolate chip or strawberry
Coffee or tea?: COFFEE! I do enjoy tea as well, but not as often or abundantly.
Favorite Movies: Brigadoon, Remember Sunday, and National Treasure
Favorite Books: I’ll try not to make my answer to this one too long… Little Women, Sarah Sundin’s Wings of Glory series, Ally Condie’s Matched trilogy, A Girl of the Limberlost, The Bell Jar, Franny & Zooey, Cecily Wolfe’s Cliff Walk Courtships series…I could keep going, but instead I’ll just add a link to my Goodreads shelves!
One item on your bucket list: I don’t have a ‘Bucket list’ as such, but I would like to visit a library in as many states as possible.
Scariest thing you’ve ever done: Well…I generally don’t do scary things intentionally. This is pretty tame but I’ll go with flying commercial for the first time, with only a friend who had never flown at all before. It was certainly intimidating, although I am not sure that it was exactly scary? Until our flight home was cancelled and then the flight they put us on instead sent us farther away from home and didn’t arrive until the connecting flight we were supposed to catch had already left, and we then had to spend the night in a completely unknown state, and then we overslept and almost missed the van back to the airport in the morning…maybe that trip was just stressful, not scary? I feel like I need a cup of coffee and an hour of silence just writing about it.
Fun fact or two: These are always difficult for me to come up with.
- I played my ukulele while my friend sang in a talent show recently and we won best performance.
- I have a cactus that I have kept alive for about 5 years now. I got it while in college because I couldn’t have pets, and three increasingly larger pots later it is still going strong!
I tag anyone who has a strong opinion on any of the things I declared as my favorites – whether you agree or disagree with me – to do this tag!
Happy Monday, Readers!
Until the next chapter,
Jana
Congrats! Working in a library always sounds so nice.
